DP Podcast 74 by Needle Drifterz

Some huge movements shape decades and some talented artists shape music of these same decades. DJ Premier shaped an entire side of the 90’s by himself producing the best tracks for the best east cost rappers, big time, with heavy, aggressive sometimes sorrowful instrumentals.
I’ll stop here right away, I don’t want to fall into sophisticated manners, I’m just a white guy living in Paris anyway right? But come on, DJ Premier flipped my all vision of rap music when I discovered his whole work pretty late in 2000…

Now it’s time to thank the Needle Drifterz for this perfect 30 minutes rewind on DJ Premier’s work that will take you on an helicopter trip over New-York with Biggie.
DJ Sims, one of the two members of the Needle Drifterz, is the Scred Connexion’s dj, a French rap crew created in the mid 90’s really closed from here in Barbès. Yeah, I might don’t know Brooklyn-NY that much but I sure know Barbès-Paris.

The great news is that they’ve been telling me that they were working on a volume 2, can’t wait.

DP Podcast 68 by La Mesch

dpodcast68_bylamesch

I’ve lastly been hit by some great songs and bands, the music is definitely lively, so fuck the crisis, I was raised in the crisis in a region that’s been sinister for more than 3 decades, growing up with this constant fear of being unemployed.

The debut LP of XX is so relevant in these gloomy times for the economy , if you’re a little sensitive you could cry listening to this album and that would be more than normal.

Smith Westerns were a stunning discovery last week for me, it actually could be seen as an another noisy garage band but they’re actually doing it their own way, really love the album too.

I was first sensitized by “Walkabout” from Atlas Sound but I quickly switched on “Sheila”, I guess it’s because it’s more obvious. I didn’t get their last album yet but I’m sure it’s great.

Black Lips will be in my head for ever I think, I haven’t been carried away in first place by their last album. I’ve seen them for the fourth time in Barcelona @Primavera Sound Festival last summer, it was maybe the best concert where I had the best fun on my own. So I took “200 Million Thousand” with me on vacations, determined to give a chance to this album, and now I’m really found of it.

I’ve discovered this track of Chateau Marmont very late this summer. I went to an after party with them and they put this crazy  “Beagle” track. These guys are full of kindness and fun, I wish them the best for their upcoming album, really.

This The Units’ track remixed by Rory Phillips is just an hymn of joy facing “high presure days”. This synthfunk pioneer band from the late 70’s are  still more than modern.

Big shout out to our mates at Fool House and Sound Pelegrino for their work on this magnificent debut EP of Delorean and this dancing Gucci Vump Remix.

I didn’t cry on XX but I really almost did on this Memory Cassette’s song. We already showcased their video earlier this week, a must see.

Great slow Remix from La Roux

Neon Indian is lately maybe the freshest guy I’ve been listening to in a so dreamed “electro scene”. Listening to this remix of Au Revoir Simone is like flying on the back of a fluffy beast.

Mario’s Break up is my best rap song of this past weeks, like millions others i guess…

DP Podcast 56: My Frenchy rap vol.01 by DJ Gero

DP Podcast 56: My Frenchy Rap vol.01 by DJ Gero

Hi Girls & Boys,
we left you this summer with a mix from Arthur King and we are back in the podcast business just today !

So so so, what is up?! Back to school uh ? Back to work ? You have to know Too Short is off the hook and for a long time, Lil’ Wayne is still doing cracked music, we are still in love with Amerie, well at least her peculiar voice on that dope late 80’s sound, Kanye West will produce part of the next Jay-Z’s album, The Game knows rap, he has a big heart, and he is giving us a beautiful homage, and Aaliyah is still soaring above R&B, if she would still be here with us she would have been “ready to swing” on this friday night for sure.

“It’s “Summertime”, shout out to Will Smith
’cause who didn’t wanna be the (Fresh Prince)?
Flat top, gold chain and some fresh kicks”
The Game - Game’s pain

This warm lick in the cavity of your years is just saying that it is NOT the end of summer, not yet. Maintain your short on and ride your bike down boulevards of your town with that 55th DP Podcast. What city is the one of the best place to spend an endless summer ? L.A. was obvious. What’s your town ?

The new thing about the DP Podcast is that we will no longer give them titles, they will simply be called DP Podcast + their number + the DJ. Nothing crazy there…we just want the podcast not to be particuliarly affiliated to one kind of music or another, it’s just shared music.

DP Podcast 54: summer mix 2008 by Arthur King

DP Podcast 54: summer mix 2008 by Arthur King

I don’t know for you out there, but the summer is here for good in Paris and it’s the perfect time to receive an e-mail from Arthur King with the subject: “Summer mix 2008″. Fuck, he did it again, Arthur King is what we can call a resident of the DP Podcast, remember these.

Arthur King is full of love, I see him behind his computer in a bright room listening to cheesy music in fancy street apparels, always having any sort of juice in his fridge for you, talking about dirty sex but without being vulgar, never.
So if you are by a pool in South of France, driving from a town to the country side or to the sea side, if you fly high in the sky to go to any places for your vacations, whatever is the way you are going to spend your summer, if your hears need a summer company, then get that 17 minutes mad snippet now ! After that, make sure to run to the store to buy the 35 tracks full mix !
